Four-day stay limit. Primitive campsites can be used by individuals camping with tents or any motorized vehicle. Three primitive sites, maximum 15 people total (five per campsite). In addition to leading you to the site of a historic steamboat landing, interpretive information along the Davenport Landing Trail includes middens along the Ocklawaha River from the Timucuan period as well as a Civil War-era gravesite.
Since it is within the river's floodplain area, expect a high concentration of mosquitoes and dress / prepare accordingly. The Davenport Landing Trail is a 0.6-mile interpretive walk to a former steamboat landing along the Ocklawaha River (1.2 mile round-trip). Just keep an eye out for any alligators that may be roaming the area. Sitting along the Ocklawaha River, this is the perfect location to cast a line from the shallows for a chance to catch that big one. Paddle your canoe or kayak across the beautiful waters of Davenport Lading in search of a quiet spot along the shoreline. Three primitive campsites provide a stop for paddlers working their way along the river. ĭeep in the floodplain forest along the Ocklawaha River, Davenport Landing is a former steamboat stop along this twisting, winding waterway. Camping is allowed only in designated campsites during general gun season, as defined in Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulations for the Wildlife Management Areas.Pets are welcome in most areas but must be kept on a leash.Groups of over 75 people must obtain a special use permit from the nearest national forest office.Establishing residency is against federal regulation. Generally, there is a 14-day per month stay limit on the National Forests in Florida.Douse them with water and stir with a shovel. Make sure campfires are dead out and cold to the touch before leaving.Do not cut standing trees or limbs off standing trees. Gather and use down and dead firewood.Use existing fire rings, fire pans or mound fires to minimize scarring rocks, soil and plants.Do not camp in an area with campfire restrictions listed under Alerts & Notices and Forest Supervisor's Orders.Get permission before camping on private property. Avoid camping in the middle of a clearing or meadow.Make your campsite less visible, so other visitors can experience a “wild” setting.Plants, soil and wildlife are impacted by new campsites. Dispersed camping is not allowed in the vicinity of developed recreation areas or less than 100 feet from streams and other water sources.Bury all human and pet waste at least 6 inches deep and at least 100 feet away from any water source.Dispose of all garbage in proper receptacles.
